When Gabon’s leader of 42 years Omar Bongo died in 2009, the country declared a month of mourning and his week-long state funeral was attended by 15 world leaders, including the president of France.
Presidential elections following his death were won by Bongo’s son Ali, who remains only the country’s third leader since it gained independence from France in 1960.
