After six seasons of misadventures, murder, bitter rivalries, bloodsucking, and growth, FX's comedy series What We Do In The Shadows will be coming to a close with its upcoming sixth season. The decision to end the popular supernatural series was explained by FX chairman John Landgraf during the network's TCA panel.

Landgraf clarified that the show had reached a natural conclusion and that it was the right time to bring the stories of Nandor, Guillermo, Nadja, Lazlo, and Colin Robertson to a close. He emphasized that it had been a great six-year run for the show, indicating that the network and the creative team behind the series felt it was the appropriate moment to bid farewell to the four Staten Island vampires.

One of the factors influencing this decision was the resolution of a significant storyline in the previous season. In season 5, Guillermo, the dedicated familiar hoping to become a vampire, finally achieved his dream but soon discovered that he couldn't stomach feeding on humans. As a result, Nandor, the vampire master, helps Guillermo regain his humanity in the season finale.

Guillermo's journey throughout the series can be seen as the closest thing to a leading character's arc. From familiar to hunter, then to vampire, and eventually back to being human again, his experiences have been a central focus. However, given his mortal nature, it is clear that Guillermo cannot remain with the vampires forever. Season 6 may delve into the decisions he must make regarding his future.

Considering the narrative threads explored throughout the show's five-season run, Landgraf's decision to end the series seems understandable. Many of the key storylines have been brought to their conclusions, leaving room for a new arc to begin or for the series to wind down gracefully. It is evident that FX and the crew are committed to giving Guillermo and his supernaturally-inclined loved ones a satisfying and conclusive ending.

For fans who may be disappointed with the news, there is still the opportunity to revisit the hilarious and entertaining adventures of the Staten Island vampires. Seasons 1-5 of What We Do In The Shadows are available for streaming on Hulu, allowing viewers to relive the comedic brilliance of this mockumentary-style series.

As we prepare for the final season of What We Do In The Shadows, it's bittersweet to say goodbye to these beloved characters. But let's trust that the creative minds behind the show will provide a memorable and satisfying end to this supernatural comedy. So, grab your capes and get ready for one last round of vampire shenanigans as the Staten Island crew bids us farewell in season 6.
