A school has been slammed as 'unfair' and accused of giving 'special treatment' to students, after they picked which pupils were allowed to attend their prom.
Some furious Year 11 students were unable to attend their big day at Honley High School in Huddersfield as they watched their fellow classmates dress up for the celebrations without them, reported Yorkshire Live.
Although hundreds attended the final year event at Cedar Court Hotel on June 30, many were left sat at home in anger and despair.
A spokesperson for the school said, "children who have consistently made a positive contribution throughout Year 11 were invited to attend" the prom.
This meant a number were left out sparking outrage among parents and pupils alike.
Year 11 student, Lilli Battye, was left "so upset" after going the whole mile to choose her prom dress, and book beauty treatments.
The 15-year-old, who is in the "top set for everything", according to her mum, was then devastatingly told she could not attend.
Her mum went on to claim that "naughty" students were allowed to attend the prom.
The prom veto has left Lilli, who has just sat her GCSE exams, heartbroken. The teen said: "Honley High School have inflicted disgusting treatment upon me and my friends.
"We were not allowed to attend prom on the basis we did not have enough of something called 'net points' which is understandable.
"It is because we are not liked by the higher ranked members of the school. The students allowed to go not within the points (also with less points than us) got given ultimatums to be able to attend which we did not get.
"We understand that we did not gain the points and therefore we shouldn’t have been rewarded, but for the school to then allow other people to attend in similar if not worst positions is a prime example of special treatment. Evidently on our records we have been better behaved than them which has been totally ignored by the members of staff."
Speaking about having everything organised to make sure her daughter had the best time, her mum added: "They told us that there isn't enough spaces for all the students to go to prom, but they need to cater to every child - it is not fair. If I had another child I would not send them to that school."
A spokesperson for Honley High School told Yorkshire Live: "Children who have consistently made a positive contribution throughout Year 11 were invited to attend. The fact that so many were present yesterday is testament to the incredible dedication and resilience shown by our students and staff alike, during an unprecedented period of challenge nationally for education.
"Given the disruption of the last few years, special consideration was given to provide opportunities for our most vulnerable students to attend the celebration, following of 5 years of education."
Retaliating to the comments, Lilli said: "This behaviour by the school should not go unanswered for as it has caused a large amount of upset and we just want to warn other children and parents on the unprofessional behaviour that is presented at Honley High School and to not send your children there if you can."
