Kilmacud Crokes claimed their third All-Ireland SFC title under controversial circumstances as they beat Glen 1-11 to 1-9 at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon.
It was a great game between two excellent teams that could have resulted either way. Throughout the game, both teams had the lead in parts. As the final few minutes approached, the match still hung in the balance.
Kilmacud were under a lot of pressure from Glen in the closing stages, as their victory was made possible by a stunning Conor Ferris save at the very end.
However, since then, it came to light that the champions had an additional player on the field for the final moments of the game.
The Derry side will feel hard done by as an image surfaced on social media which showed 16 Kilmacud players on the pitch during the concluding moments of the final.
Kilmacud had made a number of substitutes, and as a result, the Stillorgan outfit had an extra player on the pitch. This was a big lapse of concentration on the officials part.
Although, thus far, it's unclear what the repercussions will be.
