Fury after woman pours human waste on Captain Sir Tom Moore statue

People have spoken out against a campaigner who poured human excrement over a Captain Sir Tom Moore statue despite her claim that she was trying to protect what he "stood for." Maddie Budd, 21, a former medical student from Wales, poured the waste over a statue in Thistley Meadow, in Hatton, Derbyshire.

Captain Sir Tom Moore rose to prominence during the Covid-19 pandemic when he embarked on a quest to complete 100 walks around his garden in a bid to help raise money for NHS Charities. By the time he turned 100 years old, he had raised £32.79 million.

Maddie Budd carried out her protest on behalf of End UK Private Jets, a move which if not taken, the group claims, will force "civilisation into collapse." Speaking about the protest, Maddie said: "People are going to say that he's a hero, people are going to say that this is profoundly, obscenely disrespectful to his life, and to the NHS he stood up for and I agree.

"I was studying to become a doctor because I believe in taking care of people. If we believe that the NHS is important, if we believe in taking care of each other, if we believe that NHS workers are doing essential work, why are forcing our healthcare system into collapse, why are we forcing our civilisation into collapse, why is basically no-one taking this genocide of all humanity seriously?

"All of this is true and the Government won't even End UK Private Jets, every time one takes off, it pours a bucket of sh*t onto everything that Captain Tom stood for".

But Nottinghamshire Live readers have reacted with fury to the protest. Anne Hammond said: "Targeting the wrong people is pointless, go lobby government or the private jet owners, the general public have no power to change this. They wouldn't support your cause anyway when you do despicable acts of vandalism."

Henry Retsof said: "Utterly disgusting. There's no link to what Captain Tom stood for and jets flying about the sky. This is no different to defiling a headstone in a graveyard."

Lee Dawson said: "Whilst it's a despicable thing to do, it's clearly been very effective. I'd never heard about this group before, now they're in the national press."

But most were totally against the form of protest. Dave Stocks added: "Disrespecting a war hero, a Knight, and a 100 year old man who raised millions for our NHS. You've done your cause more harm than good."
