Furious townsfolk feel cut off after phone mast blackout sparks signal woes

A furious Ayrshire community say they feel ‘cut off’ after months of mobile phone signal woes.

Residents in Maybole have been struggling with a major service blackout for least three months leaving them unreachable or contactable in emergencies.

A group has vowed to take on mobile giants O2 after being told of issues with the signalling mast.

The telecom company have now vowed to send out engineers to try and resolve the problem leading to communication chaos in the South Ayrshire town.

Residents who are all on different networks, say the problem has gone on on for too long as they hit out at paying for a service they can’t use.

Ayrshire Live spoke to residents spoke to fed-up residents who gathered at Glebe Park to show their dismay.

Worried parent Leah Conway, 41, rallied disgruntled neighbours of the KA19 7HY area.

She has told how parents are finding it tough being unable to reach their kids when they leave the house.

And the mum-of-three has revealed she doesn’t know if her twin girls who take seizures have had an episode whilst at school.

Leah told Ayrshire Live: “I’ve got twin girls who both take seizures, they can just happen out of the blue. As a parent I want to be notified when it happens.

“One of my girls also fell off her bike when she was out, they’ve got phones but they weren’t able to call me to tell me what happened.

“Other parents are having problems too, a parent I know, their child didn’t turn up for school and there was no way of them being notified of this.”

Residents feel like they are going round in circles after receiving emails from O2 telling them the issue is fixed for the problem to persist.

One resident added: “It has gone on for too long and the mobile providers just pass us from pillar to post.

“I have lost count of the amount of times they have said it is fixed when it clearly is not.”

A spokesperson for O2 said: “We’re aware of an intermittent issue with a mast in the Maybole area which may be impacting some customers, and apologise to those affected.

“A further engineer visit has been requested, and we are working to restore full service as soon as possible.”
