Furious Ronda Rousey attacks referee after suffering controversial defeat

Ronda Rousey lost her temper following the conclusion of her championship match with Liv Morgan at SummerSlam. The ‘Baddest woman on the Planet’ aimed to reclaim the SmackDown women’s title from the 28-year-old inside the breath-taking Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

After an initial onslaught from Rousey, Morgan rallied to deliver a codebreaker, but as she went for her Oblivion finishing move, Rousey caught her and tried to cinch in the Armbar. Morgan avoided the submission with one of her own, but Rousey swiftly escaped the hold to lock in the Armbar in the centre of the ring.

Rousey continued to inflict damage on Morgan’s arm, forcing the trainer to check on the champion, but the resilient Morgan did not allow the official to stop the match and battled on. Rousey continued to attack the arm, but as she locked in another Armbar, Morgan stood up to plant Rousey’s shoulders to the mat for the three-count.

However, the match came to an end in controversial fashion as Ronda thought the champ had tapped out, but the referee instead counted Rousey's shoulders on the mat. The replays appeared to confirm that Rousey had been on the receiving end of a harsh decision as Morgan tapped out before the 3 count.

The former UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship then proceeded to show some of the ruthless streak that saw her dominate inside the octagon for so long. Furious with the result, she attacked her opponent once again, locking in her trademark submission leaving Morgan in agony.

Not even the referee was safe from the wrath of Rousey as she applied the armbar on him and more officials came running down to the ring before she was able to do any more damage. The explosive contest lasted just four minutes, and according to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, the match had "a lot of time" cut from it due to the Miz and Logan Paul's match running long.

Miz vs. Paul was the second contest of the night, clocking in at just over 14 minutes, and the YouTuber emerged victorious after what was an impressive performance.

In the other women's championship match at SummerSlam, Bianca Belair outlasted Becky Lynch to rain Raw women's title, before Bayley made her long-awaited return after suffering a devastating injury.

She didn't come back alone as she was joined by Io shirai and Dakota Kai, who both previously enjoyed stints on the NXT brand.
