Furious Jack Catterall hammers judges after having ‘dreams stolen’ in controversial defeat to Josh Taylor

Defeated light-welterweight title challenger Jack Catterall has hammered the judges that scored his highly controversial split decision loss to Josh Taylor.

Scottish fighter Taylor shocked the boxing world when retaining his unified belts in Glasgow on Saturday night, having widely adjudged to have been outboxed over 12 rounds.

Chorley boxer Catterall put his rival on the canvas in the eighth round and stormed out of the ring when his defeat was announced, later releasing a furious statement on social media.

“You know what hurts the most, it wasn’t for me [that] I done all of this for, [it was for] my family, my team, my town and country, my baby girl and mrs, our future,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Today I should have been waking up with all of the belts. 15 months out the ring, they all wrote me off. F***** me in every way possible for over two years, finally got the fight.

“Sacrificed everything to fight one of the top p4p ranked fighters, gave him a lesson.

“For what? Boxing shame on you. Judges [middle finger emoji]. Dreams stolen.”

Judges Ian John-Lewis and Victor Loughlin scored the bout 114-111 and 113-112 respectively in Taylor’s favour, with Howard Foster awarding it 113-112 to Catterall.

“I don’t think there’s any need for a rematch,” Taylor told Sky Sports. “I think I won the fight. I won the fight by a couple of rounds. I won the fight in the second half, took over and bossed him.”
