Hugo Lloris could not hide his fury following the full-time whistle after Tottenham were thrashed by their top-four rivals Newcastle United. The Spurs captain was beaten five times in 21 minutes as Eddie Howe's side romped to a devastating 6-1 victory at St James' Park on Sunday.
Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak both netted braces, while Joelinton and substitute Callum Wilson netted a goal each to hammer home an emphatic win for the dominant hosts. Harry Kane grabbed a solitary consolation after the break, but it was an otherwise dismal afternoon for the visitors who now have a mountain to climb when it comes to qualifying for next season's Champions League.
Lloris bravely fronted up to the Sky Sports cameras after the 'embarrassing' defeat, and apologised to supporters who had travelled to Tyneside or watched from home. Tottenham switched to a back four for the clash with the Magpies, but the World Cup winner refused to blame the result on the tactical switch.

Lloris told Sky Sports: "It's very embarrassing, and we should probably apologise to the fans who travelled, and all the fans who watched the game. We didn't show a great face today, we could not match the performance of Newcastle players.
"We were late in all the aspects of the game, and we completely missed the first part of the game. The second-half is another story, but it's really painful today.
"It's not even about talking about tactics, it's just we could not fight. We were late in all the aspects of the game, and Newcastle had a great performance.
"They were very offensive, every time they got the ball, they were looking forward. It's difficult right now to assess or analyse the performance, but the first thing is there was probably a lack of pride.
"To concede four goals in 20 minutes...you can get punched once, twice, and you can concede. But on the pitch was something strange, like we could not even react.
"We could not even bounce back into the game. But Newcastle deserve a lot of credit, they started the game at 100mph and they were very dynamic. They knew exactly what to do, with the ball and without the ball."
