Audio footage has been leaked of David Martindale’s furious half-time rant during Livingston’s Scottish Cup clash against Stenhousemuir on Saturday. The Lions gaffer was raging with his players as they trailed 1-0 at the break in the fourth round tie to the League Two side.
Martindale ripped into his first-half flops in the away dressing room at Ochilview Park after Nicky Jamieson’s opener for Gary Naysmith’s men had put them halfway towards a Scottish Cup giantkilling. Martindale has earned a reputation for his no-nonsense language which can often be heard at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
And now expletive-ridden audio of his blast at his players has emerged on social media which has caused some hilarity among fans with Martindale one of Scottish football’s current great characters. But his hairdryer treatment clearly worked as Livingston responded with three second half goals, all coming in the space of seven minutes. After the game, Martindale said: “At half-time I had a wee bit of a go at the players because I thought we were a wee bit passive in possession.” Scott Pittman drew Livingston level after 52 minutes and then Steven Bradley notched a quick-fire double, with a 55th-minute free-kick and 59th-minute strike, to seal the win.
