A furious dad claims his daughter was shoved into a freezing lake by a boy. The father alleges his 11-year-old child was taken to hospital and left 'shivering for hours', reports Hull Live.
The alleged incident occurred last week in Hull, days before the tragic death of three boys after falling through ice in Solihull. The father claims that his daughter, who he didn't wish to identify, was with friends at East Park at around 3:30pm on December 10.
He told the BBC, that the 11-year-old had been near the water watching her friends as they "poked a stick around the edge of the lake, breaking up the ice". The dad then claims a boy then "pushed her in near the bridge".
He said "I fish the lake and I know it's about 3ft-deep there. She landed backwards in the water and was drenched.
"Because of the way it shelves, she couldn't get out. Fortunately, the others helped get her out."
As they were trying to rescue her from the water, the dad alleges another girl helping was "hit on the back of the head by a thin piece of ice that had been thrown". As the drenched teen's phone was ruined by the water, the dad said his daughter had to borrow a friend's phone to call her mum.
He then claims that they came to collect their child and "got her home as quickly as possible and got her into a hot bath". Unfortunately, the father says she struggled to warm up because she had been left "absolutely soaking" by the icy lake.
The dad and his wife phoned Humberside Police who advised they take their daughter to hospital. He added: "She was still shivering hours later."
However, he believes the alleged incident "could have been much worse" and thanked his daughter's friends for helping her get out of the freezing water. The girl is a pupil at the nearby Malet Lambert secondary school, who have confirmed they are working with officials over the alleged incident.
In a statement, Malet Lambert School spokesperson said: "The school has been made aware of an incident in East Park after school on Friday and we met with one of our pupils and their family this morning. We will be working alongside Humberside Police.
"As we do every year, we are speaking to all of our pupils about general safety during the cold weather, with particular reference to East Park lake, being in such close proximity to the school." Humberside Police confirmed it was looking into the incident and asked anyone with information to get in touch.
