George Miller's highly anticipated film, 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,' is set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May. This film serves as a prequel to the acclaimed 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and features Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role. The Cannes premiere will mark the return of Miller to the festival after nine years since the debut of his previous 'Mad Max' installment.
'Fury Road,' which premiered at Cannes in 2015, went on to achieve significant success, grossing $380 million globally and winning six Oscars. 'Furiosa' will be screened out of competition at Cannes and is scheduled to premiere on May 15. The movie also stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke, with Taylor-Joy portraying the character previously played by Charlize Theron in 'Fury Road.'
Miller expressed his excitement about bringing his prequel vision to life, stating, 'The idea of this prequel has been with me for over a decade. I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to the Festival de Cannes — along with Anya, Chris, and Tom — to share ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.' There is no better place than La Croisette to experience this film with audiences on the world stage.'
In addition to 'Furiosa,' Miller's 2022 film, 'Three Thousand Years of Longing,' also premiered at Cannes. Following its Cannes debut, 'Furiosa' is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 24. The 77th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 14 to May 25, providing a global platform for filmmakers to showcase their work.
