Funeral service to be held for police shooting victims Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold

A funeral service for two constables killed in a shooting rampage in rural Queensland will be held next Wednesday.

Constables Rachel McCrow, 29, and Matthew Arnold, 26, were shot dead after responding to a missing person report at a property at Wieambilla on Monday.

Neighbour, Alan Dare, was also killed.

The funeral service with full police honours will be held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Both officers were at the start of their policing careers.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll met their families and had learnt a great deal about the fallen officers.

"The chat with the families was some of the most difficult chats you can have," Commissioner Carroll said.

"It was a time of sitting down, talking through grief, love and in fact, even some laughs, as they remembered their loved ones and some of the quirky things they did in life.

"They wanted me to know Rachel and Matt not just as police officers but what they were like as children growing up and who they were as people … why they wanted to be police officers.

"The families are amazing people who had children who wanted to do great things in life."

Their colleagues, Constables Keely Brough and Randall Kirk, survived what has been described as a trap laid by the shooters and were released from hospital earlier this week.

The trio of offenders — Gareth, Nathaniel and Stacey Train — were shot dead by police in the six-hour siege.

Western Downs residents will also gather at a candlelight vigil, for all three victims, in Chinchilla tonight.
