TWO fundraising pages have been set up to help restore a playpark which was damaged in a "wilful" fire on Monday night.
Wimpy Park, located in Alloa’s Pine Grove, had its children’s playpark opened in 2022 after the Wimpy Park Community Group secured funding to install new play equipment.
The climbing towers were then added to the playpark later for Clacks youngsters to enjoy.
One fire engine was sent to the park last night at around 7.47pm to tackle the blaze.
As a result of the fire, the playpark was temporarily closed last night, but it has now been reopened, although the community group have asked people to stay away from the play tower.
Posting to Facebook, Wimpy Park Community Group said: “Thanks to the community for their messages of support, fundraising and helping us fence off the tower.
“We can now reopen the park, but ask everyone to stay away from the tower, we are working hard to try and get the tower looked at to assess the damage.
“We are disappointed at what happened, but the support for our group and the park has been fantastic and we thank you all.”
The group also thanked Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for their support.
Two separate GoFundMe pages have been launched to help restore equipment that has been damaged in the blaze.
One, set up by Karen Duffin has raised £1035 so far, and another by Charlene Comrie, has raised £4706.
So far, this adds up to a total of £5741.
Brian Leishman, the MP for Alloa and Grangemouth, has spoken out about the incident, calling the park a "safe, fun and exciting place".
He commented: "I’m devastated to hear about the fire at the Wimpy Park last night. I can’t begin to imagine how everyone involved must be feeling, seeing a place that has brought so much joy to families and children affected in this way.
"The work the volunteers put in at the Wimpy is immense. They have created a safe, fun and exciting place where so many of our families have made memories, and that is something that should never be underestimated.
"What happened last night may have caused incredible damage, but it cannot take away the sense of community that the Wimpy Park Community Group has created.
"Thank to our local fire brigade and police for acting quickly and ensuring everyone’s safety.
"I’ve spoken with the team and two GoFundMe pages have been created by members of the public to support the group and get the park repaired.
"There is no doubt in my mind that with their resilience and our amazing community rallying round them the group will come back stronger."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.47pm on Monday, September 21, to reports of a fire at Wimpy Park, Menteith Court, Alloa.
“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene to extinguish the fire affecting playpark furniture.
“Firefighters left at approximately 9pm after making the area safe.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.25pm on Monday, September 21, 2026, officers received a report of a fire on Pine Grove, Alloa.
"The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
