Fundraiser for heartbroken family of Devin Gordon raises £20,000 while pals gather to release balloons and remember him

A fundraising page set up in memory of West Lothian schoolboy Devin Gordon has raised over £20,000 for his heartbroken family.

Devin (13) passed away last week and the community has rallied round to support his family since,.

The mum of one of his team mates at Bathgate Juniors Under 14’s set up a fundraising page that has reached £22,652.

At the weekend his devastated friends and classmates at Bathgate Academy held a vigil and released balloons.

His devastated pals gathered at Balbardie Park of Peace on Saturday to remember him.

The Daily Record reported more than one hundred people gathered to set off balloons in memory of Devin.

The teenage Hearts fan was a member of the Bathgate Juniors Football Club and number four balloons were released to mark his position on the team.

Those who gathered held onto each other tightly as inflatable footballs, love hearts and balloons emblazoned with 'Devon' were set off into the sky.

Nicola Boyd, who set up the Gofundme page said: "Cannot believe the kindness of everyone and how this handsome young lad has touched the hearts of many all around the world.

"I've had messages to the fund me page from families in USA."

Devin's heartbroken family say their lives will never be the same following the death of their “precious boy” this week.

Bathgate Academy pupil Devin passed away on Wednesday and his teachers have also been paying tribute to him, saying he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Devin’s family released a statement through the British Transport Police.

They said: “Our lives have changed forever and will never be the same without our precious boy. We will miss him everyday for the rest of our lives.

“Thank you to everyone that’s paid tribute to Devin and those that have sent us condolence messages during this extremely difficult time.

“We would like to ask that our privacy is respected as we come to terms with the tragic loss of our young son.

“Devin will live in our hearts forever”.

Eileen Paxton, Bathgate Academy head teacher said support will made available to staff and pupils following Devin’s death.

She continued: “Everyone within our school community is devastated at this news. Devin was a lovely pupil who will be missed by everyone who knew him and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“Support is in place for our pupils and staff at this incredibly difficult time.”
