Leeds United fans were hopeful of a positive result after a thrilling midweek fixture saw them draw 3-3 away at Aston Villa, while today's opponents, Everton were resoundingly defeated by Newcastle United.
However, new Everton manager Frank Lampard sprang a surprise formation tweak on the Whites, going with two up front and forcing Bielsa's side into their 3-3-1-3 formation. The Toffees also came out with a blistering intensity more usually associated with Leeds and it was the home side who ended up the victors as first-half goals from Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane were followed up by an Anthony Gordon goal with 12 minutes of the match remaining.
The result puts Everton just one point behind Leeds in the table, with a game in hand over Marcelo Bielsa's side and with the Whites looking over their shoulders at the relegation battle once again.
