Visitors to Callander can enjoy a spot of ‘tee’ at a Callander hotel.
Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park planners have backed the temporary use of the Dreadnought Hotel gardens on Leny Road as a crazy golf course and children’s play area.
In their decision, park planners said: “The proposal is within the garden ground of the hotel and benefits from a strong boundary feature (being the stone wall with railings above), to ensure the building line is maintained on the Main Street and all development remains within the site confines - this is an important feature of the Conservation Area where development extends to the heel of the pavement.
“Current activity on Main Street is a mix of commercial and residential and therefore the commercial use of the land is not out of character, particularly within the grounds of the hotel where some degree of activity could reasonably be expected.
“There is concern regarding the signage of the site, however this will be dealt with through an advertisement consent application.
“There are no neighbouring residential properties and the roads authority is content with the proposal.”
David Ryan had submitted a planning application to LLTNPA planners for the proposal.
Agents for the hotel said: “The temporary nature of the use is both in terms of its seasonality and because the applicant would be content that the National Park granted this for just the 2022 season, so that the impacts from the use can be judged prior to an application for permanent seasonal use being considered later on this year.
“The use encompasses installing temporary crazy golf holes, which are pinned to the ground, but otherwise sit on top of the grass, and installing wooden play equipment, which needs to be fixed into the ground for safety. None of the installations are permanent, and the applicant has no intention for them to be, and they can all be removed once the season is over.
“The season will run to the end of October 2022. The business will operate seven days a week from 9am until 7pm.”
The agents said that the business would run under the same name as it had last year - Pee Wee’s Crazy Golf.
