A number of Sainsbury's customers have vowed to cancel their accounts in protest at new delivery charges.
The supermarket giant has upped the annual cost of its annual “anytime delivery pass“, rising from £60 to £80.
It has also increased the prices of its "midweek delivery pass” from £30 to £40 - an increase of £10, or around a third of the original price.
The “midweek delivery pass” applies to online grocery orders that are delivered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
Customers have taken to Twitter to complain about the fees going up, and some have even threatened to cancel their accounts.
Their fury comes as the UK's food prices and energy bills continue to go up in a mounting cost of living crisis.
One Twitter user wrote: "Along with many others I will be closing my a/c.
"Sainsbury's are crazy if they think they can put up food prices & then hit loyal customers who have shopped with them for years with delivery pass increase from £60 to £80."
Another complained they purchased the annual pass but the firm failed to make some of the deliveries.
They wrote: "@sainsburys I purchased an annual delivery pass. I’ve placed 6 orders. Only 3 were delivered. No phone call or email. Terrible customer service told me I can’t cancel the £80 delivery pass. It’s not fit for purpose.
They continued: "I’ve DM but just takes me back to automated questions. I just want to be refunded for the delivery pass, Sainsburys haven’t delivered my shopping 3 times out of 6 orders. Customer services tell me they won’t cancel it because the 14 days have lapsed."
Another furious customer wrote: "All the supermarkets who make £millions in profit, should NOT be charging for delivery, it's disgusting, especially at such a time as now when many are struggling to pay for food & heating."
However, not everyone agreed with the complaints.
One wrote: "Really can't believe people are complaining about the 33.3% increase in Sainsbury's annual Anytime #delivery pass.
"Yes, it's increased from £60 to £80 So if used 50 times a year that's £1.60 per delivery - to run & fuel vans & pay pickers & your driver."
The “anytime delivery pass“ is for up to one free delivery every day, including weekends.
Sainsbury's customers have also called out the supermarket for upping prices as inflation hit a new 30-year record high of 7% in March - with experts predicting that it could reach 8% later this year.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Last year we updated our online groceries services so that we can offer simpler, more flexible ways to shop with us, while still offering great value.”
