Fuming music fans hit out at 'chaotic' queues at Glasgow's OVO Hydro

FURIOUS music fans have hit out after facing "chaotic" and "long queues" at a gig at Glasgow's OVO Hydro.

Concert-goers expressed their frustration following Fontaines D.C. show at the venue on Wednesday, December 4.

One angry fan told the Glasgow Times they were stuck in the queue for the show outside the venue at 9.10pm and due to this missed the band's first few songs.

(Image: Newsquest) They fumed: "I understand keeping everyone safe but the searches were over the top.

"I have followed this band since the beginning and this is one of the biggest shows they have played in Glasgow and it took too long to get in.

"I missed the first three songs of the show due to the searches. People were booing and getting angry standing in the rain.

"I understand there is a job to do but it could have been handled better."

Ahead of the show in the city, the OVO Hydro revealed doors for the concert were set to open at 6.30pm and the event was planned to start at 7.50pm and finish at 10.30pm.

However, the Fontaines set ended up starting around 9.15pm.

(Image: Newsquest) Fontaines D.C. are an Irish post-punk band which formed in Dublin in 2014.

The group is made up of Grian Chatten, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Tom Coll, and Carlos O'Connell.

They are known for their smash tunes including Starburster, Bug, Favourite, and I Love You.

The band have previously performed at the city's TRNSMT Festival in 2022 and are set to headline the 2025 event.

Before and after the concert, other livid fans took to social media to express their frustration over the queues at the OVO Hydro.

One angrily said: "What an absolute disaster by the OVO Hydro. Queued from 8.10pm and finally got in at 9.30pm. Chaotic and disorganised. We even had to wait for wristbands because they'd run out.

"Fontaines D.C. were fab but would've loved to see the whole gig we paid for."

At 8.45pm on Wednesday evening, another unhappy fan posted: "Stood in the p**hing rain for well over half an hour to get into the OVO Hydro for Fontaines D.C. - queues moving at a snail's pace.

"Not good enough. Get it sorted."

A third disgruntled customer said: "OVO Hydro any partial refunds for no getting folk into Fontaines quick enough tonight (Wednesday, December 4) and missing half the set? Some giggle."

A fourth music fan added: "OVO Hydro - shocking customer experience this evening - long queues in the cold and rain.

"Draught beer ran out before the band took the stage. Fontaines D.C. were awesome - the venue was s**te. Normally like the venue but tonight..."

(Image: Newsquest) Another frustrated gig-goer said: "OVO Hydro what an absolute shambles your venue is.

"Queued well over an hour tonight (Wednesday, December 4) to get inside as did thousands of others and missed a considerable part of the gig.

"Not good enough."

Meanwhile, a sixth fan added: "OVO Hydro - the security staff were utterly shambolic for tonight's Fontaines D.C. gig.

"Got there and waited an hour before getting in the door - hundreds missed the first few songs. Never experienced this before at the venue."

The reason for the alleged long queues at the concert last night is currently unknown, however, the OVO Hydro has been contacted for comment.
