Furious Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell blasted his side after their 2-2 draw with Petershill, and said they “could tick all the boxes for all the things we didn’t want”.
Campbell says the positive was that they took a point from a 2-0 deficit, but they were well warned of Peasy’s dangers before falling behind in the West of Scotland Premier League clash.
Jordan Scott opened the scoring for the visitors in six minutes, with Jack McKenna netting a second 14 minutes later.
Scott Anson pulled a goal back in 27 minutes, with Alan Reid levelling with 20 minutes left.
But Campbell says he and co-boss Paul McColl were far from happy with their side.
He said: “We went through in detail how we wanted them to set up at set-plays against them, only two minutes before we walked out, and from that aspect we were extremely disappointed.
“We didn’t start well at all. We didn’t seem to have the momentum and the drive that we had asked them to put into the game.
“We lost two cheap goals, lost our runners twice, two cross balls, and we’re extremely disappointed.
“We were disappointed with the performance – I’m not going to butter it up, Paul and I weren’t overly impressed.
“Am I pleased that we came away with a 2-2 draw? Probably, because we were 2-0 down.
“But if you asked me before the game if I would have taken a draw I would have said no – we wanted and needed the win. We explained that to the guys in great detail, with regards to the level of performance that was required, and in our opinion it wasn’t there on Saturday.
“We feel that they’ve let themselves down.”
Campbell is looking for a reaction when Rangers head to 13th-placed Largs on Saturday, who are two places and three points ahead in the table.
Again, Campbell says they have been warned, and added: “We need to look forward to it, get a couple of sessions in this week.
“It’s a big, wide park down there and it will be a fast-paced game, so we just need to get ourselves set up for it.”
• Cambuslang held a minute’s silence in respect of former chairman Gordon Hendry and for former player, manager and friend Alan Paterson, who both recently passed away.
Campbell said :“Our thoughts are with their friends and family at this difficult time.”
