Full list of train strikes in Scotland over December and January amid rows over pay

ScotRail has warned passengers of potential disruption to rail journeys over Christmas, as staff members are set to walk out over ongoing pay disputes.

Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) will be taking industrial action against Network Rail, which will result in ScotRail services being impacted.

This is because Network Rail Scotland signallers and maintenance staff, who are in safety-critical roles, will be on strike. ScotRail is currently "working through" its timetable plans for the days that the strikes have been arranged.

Several strike dates across December and January have been arranged, but according to the RMT, the union has announced it will put forward a pay deal to its members to reject Network Rail's latest pay offer of 4 per cent.

The electronic ballot will be open until noon on Monday December 12.

Here's everything you need to know about the current scheduled strike action, and the days it will be taking place.

The RMT also announced that further strike action will take place from between 6pm on Christmas Eve, December 24, through to 5.59am, December 27.

It's not yet known which services will be affected but passengers have been warned of "significant disruption" to journeys, and to keep an eye on ScotRail's Twitter for any updates.

Why are rail workers going on strike?

Long-running disputes over low pay and working conditions have meant that rail strikes have been frequent this year.

The RMT has urged members to reject Network Rail's latest offer, in an electronic ballot that will close at noon on Monday, December 12.

On the train operating companies there has been no improved offer from the Rail Delivery Group, who still await a mandate from the government.

As a result, all scheduled strike action will go ahead and the union awaits the outcome of a planned meeting with the RDG today (December 6).

In a statement, RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "We remain available for talks in order to resolve these issues but we will not bow to pressure from the employers and the government to the detriment of our members."
