There has been growing concern about the regulation of dogs after a child was seriously injured by a pit bull.
Alejandro Miszan was out playing in a local estate in Enniscorthy when he was attacked by the dog, sustaining severe facial injuries as a result. The nine-year-old was later airlifted to Crumlin Children’s Hospital for urgent medical care.
The deeply upsetting case has caused people to question the realities surrounding restricted dog breeds in Ireland. It is not currently illegal to own dogs listed as controlled breeds, but owners must adhere to strict rules with these pets while they are out in public.
