Hundreds of eligible households across Greater Manchester will receive a Cold Weather Payment as freezing conditions trigger the government scheme. The £25 payment is made when temperatures are recorded, or forecast, to be 0C or below for seven consecutive days.
The payment is made automatically by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and there’s no need to apply. The scheme runs from November 1 to March 31.
Households may be considered eligible if they receive one of the following: pension credit, income support, income-based Jobseekers Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit, support for Mortgage Interest. You will generally automatically receive Cold Weather Payments if you are claiming Pension Credit.
