Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants are set to disappear from streets in and around London.
The chain has announced it will be shutting down all of its 106 sites in the next few weeks.
After more than 52 years in business, the chain will close for good on September 10.
Its owner Whitbread, which also owns Premier Inn, is undergoing a major overhaul, which will see 3,800 jobs lost to make £250 million in cost savings.
In London, there are four Beefeater restaurants in Twickenham, Woolwich, Beckton and Harrow. But there are plenty more in the neighbouring home counties, including in Kent, Hertfordshire, and Essex.
One of the three is located at the Premier Inn London Beckton Hotel. It is understood that eateries adjoining a Premier Inn hotel will be converted into an “integrated food and beverage offer.”
The Whitbread group plans on opening more restaurants inside Premier Inn hotels and increasing its hotel room offering from 86,600 to 96,000 by 2031.
The closures come around two years after the group closed 112 restaurants in April 2024.
In April, Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul said: “We always challenge ourselves to improve and, in light of significant cost increases in the form of business rates and national insurance, as well as the implied market discount to our inherent value, we’ve looked hard at the options open to us to maximise value creation over the medium and long-term.”
“This plan will transform Whitbread into a higher-margin, higher-returning pure-play hotel business,” he added at the time.
