More than 120 public buildings in Liverpool contain asbestos, the ECHO can reveal.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request by solicitors Irwin Mitchell revealed that 123 public buildings across the city contain asbestos. The ECHO then submitted a request to reveal the names and addresses of the buildings, which includes the Cunard Building, Liverpool Town Hall, council sports facilities, schools and a number of libraries.
Asbestos can be found in any building built before 2000, used for strengthening construction as well as for insulation, roofing and fireproofing. However, according to the government's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) it kills 5,000 people a year.
