The full jury panel has been seated in the hush money trial against former President Donald Trump, with 12 jurors and six alternates now in place. Opening statements for the trial are scheduled to begin on Monday.
Jury Selection Process Recap
Twenty-two potential jurors from the latest panel returned to the courtroom to complete questionnaires. Prosecution and defense lawyers each had 25 minutes to question the potential jurors. Prosecutor Susan Hoffinger emphasized that the case is solely about whether the evidence proves Trump's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. She also inquired if potential jurors could remain impartial if former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen testifies. Trump attorney Susan Necheles focused on potential biases towards the former president.
Juror Dismissals
Throughout the questioning process, six potential jurors were excused. The judge dismissed three individuals for cause, while lawyers used preemptory strikes to dismiss two more potential jurors.
Trump's Presence in Court
Former President Trump closely observed the alternates' responses as they shared their opinions of him. He turned towards the jury box to listen to their feedback.
