Full guide to River of Light as festival returns for 2022

There's just one day to go until the River of Light makes a welcome return to Liverpool and the waterfront is illuminated by beautiful artwork.

For 17 nights from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, November 6, the free exhibition will feature artworks created by local, national and international artists. All of the artwork will follow the theme of Unexpected Twist - offering a nod to the World Gymnastics Championships, which will be taking place in the city at the same time.

These pictures taken by ECHO photographer Iain Watts at a special preview tonight, show what's in store for visitors to the city. The walking trail spans 2km and will include brand-new, world premiere pieces alongside existing artworks which have never been displayed in the city before. River of Light will be delivered by Liverpool City Council's Culture Liverpool team and is supported by Arts Council England.
