The fire service have released a statement after they were called to a big house fire in a Nottinghamshire village. Five fire crews were deployed to Cropwell Road in Radcliffe on Trent at 12.30pm on Monday, May 9.
The service had urged members of the public to avoid the area and residents to close their doors and windows, adding that crews would be there for "some time". Initially, crews thought people might be in the house, which had its roof completely alight, but it has since been confirmed that everyone was out of the property and no-one has been hurt in the incident.
Phil Revill, group manager at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "About 12.30pm we got a house call to a fire on this road in Radcliffe-on-Trent. Two pumps were initially mobilised, there were some suggestions that there were persons involved so we sent a third appliance. Fortunately, everyone was out of the property when we arrived. A house looks to have had a fire that started either on the first floor or in the roof space and we have been working tirelessly for the last few hours to extinguish the fire.

"We currently have six appliances here, about 30 firefighters, and our colleagues from the police currently have the road closed - that might be closed for the next two or three hours. When we arrived, the roof was on fire from one corner to the next and the first floor was also involved - so quite a challenging incident for the crews involved. The information when we got here was that the mother of the occupant was still in the property, very quickly we managed to get her out of the property and to safety. She's fine."
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has warned that they could be at the scene until Tuesday, May 10 and say an investigation is set to get underway on the cause of the fire. They have thanked the public for their patience while they carry out work on Cropwell Road.
Mr Revill continued: "Because of the nature of the fire and the structural damage, we could be here for several hours, possibly even through the night and into tomorrow. We have our fire investigation team en route. They will be looking to find out from the witnesses and the evidence what the cause of the fire was and then we will be looking to hand it back over to the occupier and open the road accordingly.
"Our message to people in Radcliffe is thank you for your patience, we know that this is a busy road. The safety message to all households is please make sure you have working smoke alarms and test them regularly."
In an update at 4.30pm, the fire service added: "The fire has been mostly extinguished, with some areas of the roof space still alight. A structural engineer is in attendance to make sure the building is safe to enter. Four crews remain at the scene, and Cropwell Road remains closed. Thank you for your patience."
