Colby Parkinson was the second big free-agent signing by the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, coming shortly after the team inked Jonah Jackson to a three-year deal. Parkinson got a three-year contract worth $22.5 million, but the finer details of the deal didn’t come to light until this week.
Over The Cap has the full breakdown of Parkinson’s contract, which includes $10.25 million fully guaranteed – a sizable number for a tight end who’s been a backup throughout his career. The Rams structured Parkinson’s contract to be backloaded, giving him a lower cap hit in 2024 before that number spikes in the final two years.
Here are Parkinson’s cap hits in the next three seasons.
- 2024: $3.58 million
- 2025: $9.83 million
- 2026: $9.08 million
This is essentially a two-year commitment for Los Angeles, though it’s possible the Rams could get out of it after just one season. If they cut Parkinson before the 2025 season, the Rams will take on $6.67 million in dead money but still have a net savings of $3.17 million.
If they cut him before the 2026 season, they’ll save $7 million in cap space so they don’t necessarily have to commit to him for all three years – though if he stays in L.A. through 2026, it’s a sign that the contract worked out.
