MADURAI: Enabling growth for everyone is the Dravidian model and it will be my model, said chief minister M K Stalin as he distributed welfare measures and inaugurated developmental works at Theni on Saturday. “We ensure that government schemes reach every individual. The goal of this government is to fulfil the needs of every individual and the journey towards that goal is our Dravidian model,” the CM said.
Stalin said the Periyakulam and Uthamapalayam government hospitals will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 8 crore and Rs 4 crore respectively. A check dam will be constructed across Kottakudi river near Manchanaickenpatti in Bodi for Rs 3 crore. The government will bring out a special package for Vaigai textile park at Andipatti. “Based on Cumbum MLA Cumbum Ramakrishnan’s request, a modern rice mill will be set up in Theni district since the farmers from the district produce rice as a major crop,” he said.
The chief minister also announced the upgrading of the Kumily bus terminal at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore. A housing project for Kuravar and Narikuravar communities will be carried out at Veeranaickenpatti. The government has paid Rs 3.5 crore as the beneficiaries’ contribution to the project which they can pay back in small installments, he said.
Listing out the schemes executed by his government after assuming power, he said the government would execute public welfare measures for which he is ready to consider suggestions, but there was no time for destructive and vested criticism. At Theni, Stalin distributed welfare measures to 10,427 beneficiaries and inaugurated completed projects and laid foundation stone for projects. At Dindigul later in the evening, the chief minister distributed welfare measures worth Rs 364.95 crore to 54,230 beneficiaries. He inaugurated 60 projects carried out at a cost of Rs 40.45 crore and laid foundation for 285 new projects worth Rs 206.54 crore. The completed work included check dams at Thopayasamy river at R Kombai village and Palasamudram for the drinking water needs of Palani Devasthanam. School buildings, revenue department buildings, libraries, laboratories in schools, veterinary hospitals, agricultural extension buildings, anganwadi centres, hospitals and ATM centres were also among completed projects.
Earlier, hitting out at AIADMK leaders at the Theni meeting, Stalin said that expecting the political maturity of MGR from his party men is a mistake. He recalled that MGR was offended when a party man omitted Kalaignar while addressing Karunanidhi.
He asked the functionary to get out of the car for humiliating the man he considered as a ‘leader’. Such was MGR’s political maturity towards his rival in politics.
