Fugitive Graham Potter arrested in Ravenshoe, Far North Queensland, after a decade on the run

The moment Queensland Police arrested Graham Potter.

Fugitive Graham Potter has been arrested in Ravenshoe in Far North Queensland after 12 years on the run.

Queensland Police arrested Potter on Monday morning at a residential address.

Potter has been wanted by police since February 2010, when he failed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court to front conspiracy to murder charges.

He was accused of being contracted to kill a man at the wedding of the son of Melbourne underworld figure Mick Gatto.

On top of that, he was also wanted on federal drug trafficking charges.

The 64-year-old will appear before Mareeba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Acting Assistant Commissioner for Victoria Police Mick Frewen said Victoria Police would make an application to extradite Potter to Victoria, where he would be presented before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

"It certainly puts to an end a long and protracted hunt for a very high-end fugitive that is wanted for very, very serious criminal charges," he said.

He said Victoria Police was confident in the strength of the evidence against Potter.

A $100,000 reward was announced in 2011 for information that could lead to his capture.

Potter was last seen by police in Tully in 2010 but escaped after being pulled over in a routine intercept.

He was known for changing his appearance to avoid capture.

Potter previously served 15 years in jail for killing and dismembering 19-year-old Kim Barry in Corrimal in 1981.
