A 69-year-old fugitive Finnish man was arrested by a plainclothed policeman posing as a gardener at a house in Romklao area, near Suvarnabhumi airport on Monday.
The fugitive, identified only as "Jacob", is wanted on charges of embezzlement and tax evasion in Finland, with damages equivalent to 4 million baht, is subject to an Interpol red notice and now faces extradition.
Pol Maj Gen Songprote Sirisukha, commander of Immigration Division 3, said Jacob was arrested at a housing estate in Lat Krabang district.
He said the suspect had been difficult to locate. He stayed indoors, kept the door closed, ordered his food delivered and blocked the windows with the cardboard boxes and other objects.
The man ventured outside only to warn gardeners to beware of power cables when they trimmed adjacent trees.
Learning from this, an officer disguised as a gardener approached the suspect’s house.
As expected, Jacob emerged to give another power cable warning, and that was when he was arrested.
