Frustration over lack of progress at vandalised Nottingham business centre described as a 'bombsite'

Neighbours to an 'eyesore' building criticised for looking 'like a bombsite' have been frustrated by a lack of progress on the site's redevelopment. The derelict Irwin Business Centre, in Church Street, Old Basford, has been unoccupied for more than a decade and has been significantly vandalised, with windows shattered, large amounts of graffiti daubed on it and walls have been damaged.

But despite the go-ahead being given to convert it to 24 apartments in 2020, the site remains in a visibly tired state. Locals said they were eagerly awaiting any change to the building, which they said had attracted anti-social behaviour and taken away from the area.

Paul Daffin, 62, from Basford, said the building had become a mess not long after it had been constructed. "It's been like that for most of the time. It looks like a bombsite at the minute," Mr Daffin said.
