Frustration over Arnold road where tyres are 'popping' due to potholes

Drivers have hit out at the state on a Nottinghamshire road that is getting 'worse and worse' for potholes. Some have complained that their tyres have even been popped because of the state of High Street in Arnold.

One particular pothole, outside Buraans Indian restaurant, has caused issued for motorists previously. The issue was resolved on April 5 as the hole was filled, but residents still say the road is 'awful'.

Arnold resident Jackie Jackson, 70, said: “I’m not surprised. It’s bad everywhere, It’s dangerous to try to avoid them. You can’t avoid them, some you can’t possibly avoid them.”

Mrs Jackson continued: “It's a big thing when people try to avoid them. We were driving down Cross Street and saw someone try to avoid one and nearly go to the other side of the road. Everytime we go out we talk about the potholes, they just get worse and worse.”

74-year-old Richard Deakin, of Arnold, added: “It’s awful, as you can see this road is pretty bad. It’s a constant issue, unfortunately it’s everywhere you go, not just Arnold.”

A Highways Manager from Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We are aware of reports of damage to the road surface on High Street in Arnold and emergency repairs to potholes are due to take place today.

“There will be some additional repairs to follow to keep the road safe for all users. We are pleased to let residents and road users know that a scheme to resurface Nottingham Road and High Street from Arnot Hill Road to Portland Street is included in this year’s programme and we will keep residents informed about when the works are going to take place.

“In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the road and make any repairs as necessary to keep it safe.”
