Neighbours of a proposed 95 houses to be built on the outskirts of Auchinleck have demanded that Scottish Water address water supply issues.
David and Helen Higgins submitted an objection to East Ayrshire Council planners, but have made clear that the issue is not with the developers of the project at Dalsalloch Woods.
They stated: "I would make no attempt to stymie the proposal or block the aspiration of other homeseekers.
"I write to urge the planning department to keep close watch and control over the operations of Scottish Water at the project.
"Their performance has not matched their boast in this area. Not by a long way."
Mr and Mrs Higgins suggested that the building of so many new homes would exacerbate issues such as loss of water pressure, drainage and danger to young people.
"There is a continual loss of pressure among the existing houses in the area. This is often explained as surges of use at the nearby Egger Plant.
"Water drainage in the area is already under strain."
They said that Scottish Water had sent people out to look at the issue and 'hum and haw' without carrying out any work.
"You will understand that we have little faith in promises made by Scottish Water," they told planners.
"We urge the planning dept to use your powers of control to ensure that Scottish Water meet some better standard of performance than they have done thus far."
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “For all new development sites, Scottish Water works jointly with SEPA and the planning authority to agree a suitable strategy to allow development to proceed without unreasonable delay.
"Any new proposed development site is required to demonstrate a zero impact on our existing customers and the environment in terms of water supply and sewer flooding and ensure that we continue to meet our statutory requirements and performance measures.
“We are aware that residents in this area have previously been affected by low water pressure and have taken appropriate action to help alleviate the situation.”
A council spokesman said: "Scottish Water have been consulted as part of the application and their response on any issues of water pressure and drainage in respect of the public sewerage system will be taken into account."
