Frustrated Edinburgh train staff argue and block passengers from overcrowded service

Edinburgh passengers were escorted from a train on Tuesday morning due to overcrowding.

The Transpennine Express service was described by one passenger as 'utter chaos' with people arguing over seats.

A frustrated member of staff was heard raising his voice to some customers, warning: 'you either stay off, or I can't go at all' as they argued with him over taking a space on the journey.

The 10.15am journey from Edinburgh to Manchester was one of many to descend into bedlam due to the ongoing train strikes across the country.

Pictures show passengers arguing over seats with some being led off the train to the safety of the platform by the conductor.

One passenger raised his concerns about the safety of the service, saying: "It's utter chaos, staff were having to take passengers off the train because it was unsafe and people were fighting over seats. I support the strikes but staff should have been more realistic with the numbers of passengers they were letting on."

Images further show passengers stuck in walkways on the train and not able to move backwards or forwards due to the confusion of the events at hand.

A Network Rail spokesman has apologised to passengers for the disruption to their journey.

Transpennine Express the operators of the train were unable to comment.
