They say People Make Glasgow - and these stories from throughout the year have proven just that, from hilarious videos to tear jerking moments.

As a city, we're often known for our friendliness and humour so it should come as no surprise that videos filmed in and around Glasgow can often go viral quickly.

Here are just some of the crackers from throughout 2022.

Battles with the pizza vending machine

A Glasgow man went viral in October, detailing his disastrous experience with Glasgow’s pizza vending machine.

In a series of tweets, John McCarthy described his ordeal where he struggled to get it out of the machine only to discover it hadn’t cooked. The tweets gained thousands of likes, and even made it to a German news site.

Gay Gordons in the city centre

While us Scots usually save our dancing for weddings, a seemingly impromptu ceilidh was held outside Kelvingrove Art Gallery back in September.

Dozens of dancers took part in the Gay Gordons, accompanied by the Glasgow Folk Music Workshop.

Ghostbusters parade

In November, footage of the Annual Battlefield Lantern Parade went viral as the brass band made their way through the streets with an instrumental rendition of the Ghostbusters theme song.

Thousands of Twitter users watched the video as the enthusiastic group made their way through the city.

Yo Sushi TikTok

A three-minute long video of Glasgow folks enjoying their Yo Sushi went viral in February, after someone left their phone on the conveyor belt.

The phone made its way round the restaurant, filming the whole time with customers waving at the camera - even the staff got involved. As usual, Glasgow showed its sense of humour once again.

Pigeon rescue at Glasgow Central

Staff at Glasgow Central Station featured on a BBC One Scotland programme, which showed themselves getting in a bit of a ‘flap’ over a trapped pigeon.

Station Manager, Drew Burns, was called in to rescue a bird after it was discovered on the roof on the station. He joked: “It’s a pigeon and, you know me, [I’m the] pigeon man of Central - I need to look at it, need to investigate.”

After the SSPCA were called in for help, they eventually got the bird out and returned to the streets of the city.

Glaswegian groom’s speech

A Glasgow groom shared his new wife’s embarrassing secret in a hilarious video in November.

He told a story about the night the couple met at Oran Mor, and shared their first kiss - before he went to get them some drinks at the bar, and returned to find her sharing another first kiss with someone else.

Everyone at the wedding found the humour in the story, and so did people online.

Busking schoolgirl

Eight-year-old Lucia Mckechnie went viral earlier this month after a festive day out with her family saw her try her hand at busking.

The talented youngster borrowed a mic off a busker, and wowed crowds at the Christmas market.

Dancing couple

Another adorable moment came earlier this month, when an elderly couple were spotted waltzing in Braehead shopping centre.

As a young woman performed Lost Without You, the couple took advantage and danced together beside the centre’s massive Christmas tree. Lovely stuff.

Glasgow accents

A Glasgow woman’s accent went viral in June, in a YouTube video from Beta Squad.

The woman appeared on an episode called 6 Old People vs 1 Secret Young Person, which was watched by almost three million people. Many were quick to point out her accent, which was a high pitched Glasgow voice.

Susie McCabe’s heatwave ‘warning’

Comedian Susie McCabe uploaded a video of herself to Twitter warning of the heatwave, which had fans in stitches.

She said: “Currently a heatwave is gripping the country right now.

“32C in some places. Heatwave warning getting extended from Sunday into Monday.”

As she was talking, she revealed her surroundings in Glasgow where the rain poured down.
