From Metallica to Moby, your next Stranger Things musical obsessions

By now, we’re all intimately familiar with Kate Bush’s Eighties masterpiece Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God). The epic synths, the dreamy lyrics and above all Bush’s reputation as a master songwriter paired perfectly with Stranger Things’ aesthetic – and even ended up saving the life of character Max.

But impossible as it may sound, Bush wasn’t the only icon to be plying her trade in the Eighties, and Stranger Things’ season four incorporates a few more epic musical moments that are sure to explode the internet in the coming weeks.

We round up the best…

Master of Puppets - Metallica

Is there anything more metal than watching a goth rock out to Master of Puppets on the guitar? Factor in that he’s in the Upside-Down and surrounded by a swarm of attacking hell bats, and you’ve pretty much got episode eight of Stranger Things down pat. Eddie’s hero moment (all the guitar playing was done by Joseph Quinn himself) ended up being very well deserved, and the ultimate moment of catharsis for this fan favourite antihero.

Dream A Little Dream of Me - Ella Fitzgerald

We’ll never look at Ella Fitzgerald the same way again. Serving as an impromptu theme song for main villain Vecna, the song plays during especially creepy moments where he exercises his powers. Think the moment where he murders his entire family early in the season – or the moment Max finds herself cornered by him in her own mind. Creepy.

When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die – Moby

Now, no spoilers. But this song plays during a particularly heart-breaking moment in Season 4, Vol 2 and its haunting lyrics make the moment hit even harder. Excuse us while we reach for the tissues.

You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) - Dead or Alive

Poor Eleven. This song plays at the roller disco where Eleven takes Mike for their date. Naturally, things don’t go to plan and El finds herself spectacularly bullied by some of the girls from her high school – before breaking one of their noses with her roller skates. Either way, it’s the perfect song choice for the moment.

Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - Journey and Steve Perry

Though it doesn’t feature in the actual series, the song is too good not to mention. It features in the trailer for Season 4, Vol 1 and the ominous music and epic lyrics make it the perfect match for the creeping feeling of dread that the trailer encapsulates. Play this on loud in the car and prepare to brood.

What other songs feature in Season 4?
