As the chatter escalated, LizLaz found herself unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight.
“It was crazy because I woke up and then I was all over the news,” she shared, reflecting on the whirlwind attention. “I didn’t even know when he liked the picture — I found out through news articles people sent me. My DMs were flooded, and everyone seemed super excited.”
Interestingly, an older clip of LizLaz has also resurfaced online, where she openly expressed admiration for Kohli. That admiration, she reveals, began during her first trip to India last year — a visit that ended up reshaping her interests.
Originally planning a short stay, LizLaz extended her trip for several months, exploring cities like Bangalore, Goa, Mysore, Coorg, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. It was during this time that she discovered cricket.
“I was born in South Africa but grew up in Germany, where football dominates,” she explained. “Cricket was completely new to me. But during the IPL, my friends in Bangalore got me hooked. It was contagious.”
Her growing interest naturally led her to support Royal Challengers Bangalore, making Kohli — the team’s most iconic player — a standout figure for her.
“Of course, if you support RCB, Virat Kohli is the most exciting player to watch. He’s just so good. So yes, I was happy when he liked my picture.”
As quickly as the excitement rose, it shifted when Kohli removed the like — but LizLaz’s reaction was surprisingly empathetic.
“I actually felt a bit sorry for him,” she said. “I don’t even understand how it became such a big story. It probably wasn’t his intention at all. But I’m still grateful and appreciate the support.”
The viral moment has already opened new doors for LizLaz, with collaboration offers and opportunities pouring in. However, she’s approaching it all with caution.
“There have been many queries, but I want to take my time,” she noted. “I’m passionate about music and vlogging. If opportunities come in India, why not? I’d love to visit again — especially during the IPL.”
What began as a fleeting tap on a screen has turned into a cross-continental moment of fame — proving once again that in the age of social media, even the smallest actions can create the biggest waves.
