Whether you’re a fleet manager or a company car driver, the benefits of opting for a fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle are easy to understand, not least when it comes to tax savings. Things can get more complicated when it comes to deciding on your car, though.
Fortunately, with a six-strong range made up of fully electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) that match dynamic style and performance with many more benefits, CUPRA helps make that choice just a bit easier.
1 The power of choice
Businesses and their drivers have never had more choice when it comes to making the move to an EV or PHEV. It’s certainly true of CUPRA, which now has two battery-powered electric vehicles (BEVs) – the Born and all-new Tavascan – and three PHEVs – the new Formentor, Leon and the forthcoming Terramar, meaning this disruptive brand has alternatively-powered cars to suit every requirement.
2 Switching made simple
Switching to electrified cars can be a daunting prospect – both for businesses and drivers themselves. It’s why CUPRA has come up with a number of ways – practical and financial – to help customers make a seamless transition. For Born or Tavascan company car drivers, that includes a free Ohme wallbox* charger or a Charging Service voucher with £700 credit.
“As a fleet driver, you may be faced with five or six different EVs to choose from,” says Martin Gray, national fleet manager for CUPRA UK. “The prospect of a free charger or free electricity is extremely beneficial.”
The benefits of switching to CUPRA don’t end there. For example, all area fleet managers at the company hold a Galileo Master Certificate, an internationally recognised certificate in the renewable energy industry, to help answer your questions. Every new model comes with a five-year warranty of up to 90,000 miles for added peace of mind. And, in an industry where “disruptor” brands are an increasing presence, CUPRA – which was formed in 2018 – can point, as a member of the Volkswagen group, to a mature servicing network built to ensure vehicles are kept on the road.
3 Electrifying performance
Paying less company car tax ranks high on the list for company car drivers. In the case of the five BEV and PHEV options from the manufacturer, this means considerable savings through the benefit-in-kind tax for EVs – you will currently pay just 2%^ for the Born and Tavascan EVs, and 5%^ for the Formentor, Leon and new Terramar PHEVs.
Previously, company car drivers with EVs made savings but were presented with car choices that rarely stirred emotions. But with an electrified range that’s bold, sporty and confident in nature, CUPRA is challenging the status quo, and dispelling the notion that EVs and PHEVs can’t excite. “Paying less company car tax by choosing an EV shouldn’t mean diminishing the opportunity for driving enjoyment,” says Gray. “People are looking for something different. And that includes their choice of car.”
That the brand that calls Barcelona its home has a lineup of models designed to thrill shouldn’t be a surprise. The clue’s in the name – CUPRA comes from Cup and Racing, reflecting the brand’s motorsport origins. Speed isn’t just restricted to performance, either. Its electric models can charge from 10-80% in as little as 28 minutes with a 135kW charger1.
4 For forward-thinking businesses
Its range of electric and hybrid vehicles is a symbol of its aim to reduce emissions – the BEV models combine high performance driving with zero tailpipe emissions. In the case of the Born VZ model, that means an all-electric range of up to 372 miles2. Impressive figures extend to the new Formentor plug-in hybrid too, which offers up to 77 miles3 of all-electric range in V1 specification with a combined mpg of up to 706 miles.
And for the brand, activity extends beyond reducing tailpipe emissions. It’s working to revolutionise how its cars are built, with innovative materials such as hemp fabric, Seaqual yarn – derived from recycled marine plastic – and 3D flat-knitting technology, which reduces waste by creating fabrics precisely to measure.
5 Dynamic design that stands out
CUPRA’s BEVs and PHEVs all share one overriding design goal – to be truly unmistakable. Take the just-launched, all-new Tavascan, with its standout exterior features including an illuminated logo and three-triangle eye signature headlights. “They give the Tavascan a domineering presence,” says Ben Smith, product manager at CUPRA for the Born and Tavascan models. “You’ll know if you see one approaching in your rear-view mirror, with its standout exterior features.”
Things are no less dramatic inside, with a meticulously designed interior that puts driver experience at the heart of everything. Highlights include supportive high-back bucket seats, a standout Sennheiser sound system and a cockpit-like feel that allows you to focus on your drive.

1 Estimated charging times for the standard specification Tavascan 2024. Test data obtained under standardised conditions for comparison purposes. Actual charging times will vary depending on various factors, including the selected trimline (and battery option, if available), the options you choose, the type of charger used, the level of charge in the battery, the age, type, condition and temperature of the charger and the battery, the power supply to and usage of the charger, ambient temperature at the point of use and other environmental factors. Charging time will be longer in cold weather. Charging times will also be affected by the charging curve (for example, once charging passes 80%, charging will slow to protect the battery’s longevity) and will be longer if battery temperature activates safeguarding technology. Please consult a CUPRA retailer for further information. Data correct as at November 2024.
The availability of [150kWh and 350kWh] chargers is currently limited in the UK. They are mainly located on selected motorways and major arterial routes. These chargers are not currently available in Northern Ireland and numbers are low in Scotland, Wales and rural parts of England. Please see https://www.zap-map.com/live/ for further details.
2 Official test (WLTP) electric range for Born VZ. Test data obtained under standardised conditions after the battery had been fully charged (to 100%). The Born VZ is a battery electric vehicle requiring mains electricity for charging. Figures shown are for comparability purposes. Only compare electric range figures with other vehicles tested to the same technical procedures. These figures may not reflect real life driving results, which will depend upon a number of factors including the starting charge of the battery, accessories fitted (post-registration), variations in weather, driving styles, route conditions, speed, vehicle and battery age and vehicle load. Data correct at November 2024.
3 The CUPRA Formentor is a plug-in hybrid vehicle which uses a combination of battery power and fuel and requires mains electricity for charging. Figures shown are for comparability purposes; only compare fuel consumption, CO2 and equivalent all electric range figures with other vehicles tested to the same technical procedures. These figures may not reflect real life driving results, which will depend upon a number of factors including the accessories fitted (post-registration), variations in weather, driving styles, route conditions, speed, vehicle and battery age and vehicle load. Data correct at November 2024.
