The highest tier of pop music often feels like a roster of the same old suspects — by now, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Adele have all been around for ages, and even comparative newcomers like Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and Lorde have decade-long careers under their belts.
Few newer names have stuck around, until now, that is: pop feels like it has being shaken up in 2024, with emerging stars toppling the old guard. While a fair few of this year’s biggest pop albums have underwhelmed, new stars are freshening up the genre, bringing back the fun and not afraid to speak their minds.
