For many of the Venezuelan television personalities preparing to spend 15 hours raising money for earthquake victims back home, "Unidos por Venezuela" is more than another televised fundraiser.
Some of its most recognizable hosts left Venezuela during years of political and economic upheaval, rebuilding their careers in Miami, Mexico, and elsewhere as millions of their compatriots also left the country. Others grew up abroad in Venezuelan families that maintained deep ties to the country.
