From busking at Paisley Cross to awards success for band

A band that began their career busking at Paisley Cross has gone on to be recognised as the best wedding band in the country.

Abbey Road was awarded Best Evening Band at the Confetti Awards earlier this week following hundreds of letters of support from happy customers, as well as the approval of the judging panel.

The Confetti Awards have been running for seven years and it recognises the hard work of those working in the Scottish wedding industry.

The band is made up of Jay Fitzpatrick and his band-mates Cameron, Aidan, and Cammy.

The Paisley quartet started playing music together as teens, often becoming the subject of noise complaints as they wowed passersby at Paisley Cross.

They began performing as Abbey Road in 2019.

They attended a ceremony at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, in Glasgow, on Monday, January 30 to collect their award.

Jay said: “It feels amazing to win. We did not expect it at all, but we do work hard, constantly, so it’s good to be recognised for all the hard work.”

The band have played at more than 500 weddings and strive to make couples’ special day that extra bit magical. They have even welcomed a groom on stage to play a set alongside them.

Businesses register for the awards and make it through to the finals on the back of submissions from happy clients to the judging panel.

The judging panel, made up of industry specialists then takes a look at those who have made it to the finals and declares winners in a variety of categories.

Jay, who recently opened up the Fitzpatrick Academy of Music in Paisley, hopes the award will lead to more customers booking Abbey Road.

”If they go to the agency website – elitebands.co.uk – they’ll see us there and the award attached to our name and they’ll not need to worry anymore, they’ll see that as a stamp of quality and say ‘ah, well they’ve won it, they must be good’.

“And we try to bring everything to a wedding, a full lighting rig, a big light show for every wedding and everyone’s always up on the dancefloor, it’s always a great night. We always receive great feedback and that’s clear from winning this award.

“Our clients have voted for us in their hundreds to get us to the final and then the judges have selected us.”

A spokesperson from the Confetti Awards said: “Congratulations to all our winners.”
