Illawarra big man Sam Froling faces an uncertain future after scans confirmed a long-term achilles tendon injury that will sideline him from the NBL decider and well into next season.

The Hawks will leave it to star import Trey Kell to determine whether he can return from his knee injury to face Melbourne United, while United guard Shea Ili (head knock) remains in doubt for Sunday's winner-take-all clash in Wollongong.
