Almost 3,000 more homes are still left to be built a popular housing development in Nottinghamshire over the next 10 to 15 years. The growing neighbourhood of Middlebeck, near Newark town centre, is now made up of around 500 homes as well as Christchurch CofE Primary School, Gannets café and Middlebeck’s Cycle Hub.
The home construction company Bellway shared plans on Tuesday, January 18, that it would be creating another 104 homes at Middlebeck, four of which will be be part of the Government’s affordable homes programme. However, this is just a fraction of the additional homes residents can expect, with a further 2,900 homes planned for Middlebeck in the next 15 years through a range of housebuilders on the site.
Although some residents have concerns about the housing estate growing so rapidly, many are not surprised and say it's such a lovely place to live and they can understand why more people would want to live there. Software engineer Aaron King, 36, of Middlebeck, said: "It's really quiet here and everyone is really friendly.

"We just bought the house a few months ago, but it's a fantastic place to start up a family. It's a good community, everyone seems to get along and we just couldn't be happier.
"I think it's not surprising more people want to live here, but I think more people living here could also lead to more local businesses and amenities coming to the area." Sale advisor, Helen Oxley, 36, says she isn't phased by how big the development could grow.
Helen said: "We knew how big it was going to get, when we moved here we looked at the plans for the whole development." When asked what it was like living on the development, she said: "I love it here, it's just really nice.
"I work south on the A1 so it's handy having that close for me. Another shop somewhere would be handy for the things you run short of at the last minute, but I think there is plans for one eventually."
Recruitment worker, Kelsie Hill, 30, said: "I've only just moved here so I've only been here around two months, but yeah it's really good. It's a bit annoying with the building works opposite.
"We need a few more shops here or a pub. I think that would be good as it would be nice to be able to walk to a shop."
Regarding the future plans for the development, Kelsie said: "I didn't realise it was going to be that big, I don't think it's good for Newark. It's not going to be very good for the roads here as they are already bad as it is."
Semi-retired Julie Robb, 67, has lived at Middlebeck for more than two years. She said: "I like it here, but it will be nicer when all the building stuff has gone, but the estate is quite nice and friendly."
After being told of the developments plans for more houses to be built, Julie said: "Crikey, It's going to be huge." She said she wondered how it would affect the amenities in the area.
Julie said: "If it's going to get that big they need to increase some of the facilities. a more more shops locally would be good."
Retail worker, Marek Stelmachowski, 37, said: "It's just a good place to live here. I think most of the people would like the pub and shops as when we moved here we were told they were building one and then they changed the plans.
"So I'm sure lots of people are asking about those things." Speaking about the estate's future, he added: "The size of the estate does not bother me at all."
Nottinghamshire Live contacted Bellway for comment on the latest plans.
However, an Avant Homes spokesperson, one of the other developers involved in the wider project, said: “The Heddles has been a hugely successful development for Avant Homes, which has allowed us to provide the locality with 173 much-needed high quality new build homes as part of the wider urban extension plan being delivered by Urban & Civic.
“We are currently completing our final five homes at The Heddles and have no further investment plans for the development at this point in time.”
