More than 30 new state lawmakers will come to Frankfort for their first legislative session the first week of January. Many of them were at the state capitol Tuesday for orientation. Democrat Daniel Grossberg will represent Louisville’s House District 30. He anticipates Senate action on the floor the first few days, something he’s not sure about.
“I’m a member of the minority party so I don’t think it’s good idea cause we’re not exactly clued in on what the plans of the majority party are. But, it is what it is and we’re going to be as prepared as possible,” said Grossberg.
Democrat Beverly Chester Burton has served as mayor of Shively in Jefferson County. She believes that experience will help her make the transition to Frankfort as a state representative. Chester Burton is filling the seat held previously by Minority Floor Leader Joni Jenkins.
Matt Deneen will represent the tenth senatorial district in Elizabethtown. Deneen said he’s the first republican to hold the seat in a dozen years.
“My district is very split. We have almost about 50% of both parties and I have a lot of bipartisan support from back home. I look forward to representing all of our constituents,” said Deneen
Kevin Jackson is a new GOP representative from Bowling Green. He anticipates mostly tweaking of existing legislation but is excited about formally lowering the state income tax by a half percent.
