Fresh details of contract talks emerge as Nottingham Forest ace catches the eye

Nottingham Forest could be set to offer midfielder Ryan Yates a new three-year deal as they look to tie him down to fresh terms.

The 24-year-old has been a key performer as the Reds have climbed the Championship table under Steve Cooper, playing a big part in their promotion push this season.

That form has seen him catch the eye of other clubs, with his current Forest contract due to expire in the summer of 2023.

Some talks have already taken place, and more are understood to be planned for the coming weeks, in a bid to reach an agreement.

And, according to the Daily Mirror, the Reds want to secure Yates’ future on a new three-year contract.

The Nigel Doughty Academy graduate has made 34 appearances so far this season and found the net four times, including coming off the bench to bag a crucial equaliser against Stoke City earlier this month.

He found himself among the substitutes again at the weekend, for the 2-0 victory over Bristol City, as head coach Cooper brought Philip Zinckernagel back into the side.

“It's never easy leaving Ryan Yates out, I'll be honest with you. It's never an easy decision,” the Welshman said afterwards.

"And it's definitely not an easy conversation, because, for as good a guy he is and as good a professional he is, he's a winner and he does not like sitting in that dugout.

"But that's what we want.

"It was the same with Phil in the last game, and it will be the same with the next game - we will have tough calls to make.

"But I would rather that headache than not having it."
