Frenkie de Jong has already revealed why he doesn't want Barcelona exit amid Man United chase

Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has already explained why he wants to stay at Barcelona.

United have been embroiled in a transfer saga with Barcelona over De Jong for the entirety of the summer with Erik ten Hag having made him the club's priority this window. A fee has been agreed with Barca, however, progress has stalled.

One factor that has led to the De Jong move having not been confirmed is the wages the Dutchman is owed. However, before that became an issue, the 25-year-old had spoken about why he loves playing for Barcelona.

He told the Observer: "He [Sergio Busquets] was like, ‘great you’re coming and if you need something I’m always there to help'. And when I arrived in Barcelona, he recommended a restaurant and made a reservation for me and my girlfriend, Mikky.

"He had also informed the owner that we were coming so that everything was well arranged for us." De Jong then added: "I never got that feeling 'a new midfielder is coming which might mean I won’t play'.

"Everyone really wants to help you. It’s like the best are playing and you can only influence that yourself. It’s not like someone else is to blame if you’re not playing. And I get the sense everyone feels that way.

"I’m very happy I’m at Barcelona. From a young age I’ve wanted to be here, so in that way it has been a dream come true. But I would have liked to win more trophies than we did in my first two years.

"I expected more in that sense, let’s put it that way. But other than that, I’m very happy here and hopefully for many more years."

It would appear that the atmosphere at Barcelona is encouraging De Jong to stay at the club. United's only hope is that Ten Hag can convince him of the project at Old Trafford.
