Frenkie de Jong gives fresh update on future amid Manchester United transfer interest

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong admitted that there is "no news" to bring anyone on his future amid ongoing links with a move to Manchester United.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News more than a month ago, United are interested in bringing the 25-year-old to Old Trafford this summer, as new manager Erik ten Hag looks to complete radical changes to his squad. The Barcelona ace has been sounded out his preferred midfield target.

The duo worked together at Ajax before De Jong joined Barcelona back in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £65million. If the La Liga giants are to sell the Dutchman this summer, it is certain that they will want to make a profit.

However, United are keeping their options open as far as potentially signing other midfielders are concerned. Talks are understood to remain ongoing with Barcelona, but the two clubs currently have different valuations of the midfielder.

Nevertheless, speculation continues to mount, so it may be a while before this particular transfer saga draws to a close. But following the Netherlands' dramatic 3-2 win over Wales in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday evening, De Jong issued an update on his future, insisting there was nothing to tell, while describing Barcelona as the world's biggest club.

"You are always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player," said De Jong. "But I think I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and feel fine there so there is no news."

De Jong — who produced a slick performance against Wales — was described as "phenomenal" after the game by Wales chief Rob Page. He is reportedly open to joining United this summer, despite recent claims that he had reservations because of the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League for next term. United finished sixth in the Premier League table and will compete in the Europa League.
