Frenkie de Jong has dismissed rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United after saying he wants to stay at Barcelona “for many more years”.
De Jong is one of the many names that have been linked with United over the past few months, with the Netherlands international’s name cropping up on plenty of occasions during the January transfer window.
A move has not yet materialised and it's understood that Declan Rice and Amadou Haidara are among United's top central midfield targets, rather than the Barca man.
But with United looking to bolster their options in midfield, De Jong would fit the bill in terms of being a quality player in a position in which Ralf Rangnick's side are lacking.
The former Ajax man has now addressed his future, following comments from his father that poured cold water — almost literally — on a move to Old Trafford.
“It’s often bad weather there (Manchester). Of course it’s about football, but it does matter,” John de Jong said.
“Of course I know that Barcelona needs money and a great offer for Frenkie could help, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
“Although, the five top European clubs have all called.”
And De Jong himself has now made his intentions to remain at the Nou Camp clear as speculation ramps up again over his future.

“I’m very happy I’m at Barcelona: from a young age I’ve wanted to be here, so in that way it has been a dream come true,” De Jong said in an interview with the Guardian.
“But I would have liked to win more trophies than we did in my first two years. I expected more in that sense, let’s put it that way.
“But other than that, I’m very happy here and hopefully for many more years.”
